Our protagonist appears to be capable of dodging Jahovac's monsterous blade, but why is he still standing after that previous blow?

As I saw on one episode of Rurouni Kenshin, it was explained that giant swords are impractical weapons for one on one combat. I also wanted to explain this in my series. Jahovac is still very strong, so perhaps he might be able to do more than just swing a giant sword at people.
